Bay Path Outlasts Becker in Women’s Hoops 70-61

HOLYOKE, Mass.--- Junior forward Kayla Skiffington (East Longmeadow, Mass.) dominated the paint in her second highest scoring game of the season tallying a double double with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Skiffington shot .473 from the field going 9-for-19, while finishing with a .667 from the line going 8-for-12. The Wildcats grabbed their fourth conference win on the season downing New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) foe the Hawks of Becker in a dominate first half showing.

Bay Path advances to 7-5 on the season and 4-2 in conference play, while Becker fell to 3-10 overall and 2-4 in the NECC. Skiffington along with junior captain Justine Hook (Berwick, Penn.) and sophomore guard Toni Alexander (Enfield, Conn.) all scored in the double figures. Hook had 16 points, while T. Alexander added 14 points. Hook was near perfect from the charity stripe landing 9-out of-10 shots. Toni Alexander had team high five assists.

Four different Hawks scored double figures with junior forward Jacqueline Chila (Monroe, Conn.) and junior guard Haley Ooms (Valatie, N.Y.) each putting up 13 points. Ooms was close to a triple double adding ten assists and seven rebounds, while Chila also pulled down seven boards.

Junior forward Tatiana Mojica (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore guard Brooke Martel (Griswold, Conn.) combined for 20 points.

Bay Path controlled the momentum most of the game with the Hawks surging to within two points late in the second half.  The Wildcats strength came from scoring 25 points off of turnovers committed by the Hawks.

Bay Path was able to go up 15 point over the Hawks with some incredible shots from downtown. Toni Alexander started the ball rolling making two consecutive three pointers at 9:30 and 8:56 on the clock. Skiffington would sink a lay-up with Hook following that basket with a trey.  The Hawks answered back on a Chila jumper. Freshman guard Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) would keep the streak going and nail another three-pointer at 4:26 on the clock with 30-19 score. Junior guard Mercedes Griffith (Malden, N.Y.) finished the run hitting the Wildcats final trey of the first half.

Becker would break through in the second half outscoring the Wildcats 33-31 but unfortunately they could not overcome the lead that Bay Path amassed in the first half 39-28.

Both teams play Thursday, January 17th with Becker heading to Elms for a 5:00 p.m. start while Bay Path hosts top ranked Regis at an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
