Mackie, McKenna and Hendrickson Honored During Post-Game Festivities
LONGMEADOW, Mass.- Bay Path hosted New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) opponent Mountaineers of Southern Vermont College in their senior day women's lacrosse match falling in a 10-9 heartbreaker. Seniors' Megan Mackie (Kaiserslautern, Germany), Megan McKenna (Bennington, Vermont) and Jhaklema Hendrickson (Bridgeport, Conn.) started and played all sixty minutes with McKenna scoring two goals and Mackie adding an assist. Leading the way for the Wildcats was sophomore midfielder Samantha Rubacha (Feeding Hills, Mass.) tallying three goals and three assists. Topping all players was sophomore Mountaineer Alex Safford (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) with seven goals.
Southern Vermont scored in the first minute of play after grabbing the control with freshman defender Julia LaFiora (Philadelphia, Penn.) finding the back of the net of a pass from fellow freshman Megan McDonald (Poughquag, N.Y.). Rubacha answered them knotting the game 1-1. Both teams stayed neck in neck the entire game with Bay Path holding a 4-3 lead at the half.
Southern Vermont Safford scored the eventual game winner at six minutes left in the game breaking up the tie. Two other Southern Vermont players scored including freshman Brittany Fulton (Bridgeport, Conn.) and senior Vanessa Kendall (Coventry, Conn.). Senior goalkeeper Sydnee Julian (Mexico, N.Y.) earned the victory facing 17 shots on goal, 25 shots, with 8 saves.
Junior keeper Kristina Tran (Agawam, Mass.) suffered the loss facing 18 shots, 20 on goal, with eight saves. Sophomore forward Emmeline Bronson (Shelton, Conn.) added two goals, while junior defender Joanna Feliciano (Springfield, Mass.) and freshman defender Lydia Clifford (Coventry, R.I.) rounded out the Wildcats scoring each adding a goal.
Southern Vermont is now 2-9 overall and 2-3 in the NECC, Bay Path falls to 1-10 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.
