Wildcats Prevail 2-1 Against AMCats

LONGMEADOW, Mass.-Junior forward Sandra Caldas (Leal de Camara, PT) scored the game winning goal at the 79th minute of play after a 1-1 stalemate allowing the Wildcats of Bay Path their first win on the season. Bay Path won the match 2-1 over the AMCats of Anna Maria in NCAA Division III women's soccer action today at Ryan Field.

Both teams had remained scoreless at the half. Bay Path struck first when junior forward Jacqui Siddle (Palmer, Mass.) found the back of the net in the 39th minute of play. Siddle nailed a remarkable goal off a free kick about 20 yards back past an AMCat wall five deep.

Anna Maria would answer back in the 62nd minute when sophomore midfielder Alexa Hare (North Brookfield, Mass.) would drive in from 15 yards to boot the ball in the upper corner to score.

All goals were unassisted on the match. Caldas who notched the game winner received a lucky break off a cross by senior defender Christine Hollingworth (Lenox, Mass.). Hollingworth's cross was a beautiful play inside but was misplayed and deflected by an AMCat defender.

Senior keeper Sam Gunseth (Swanzey, N.H.) picked up her first win of the year with 17 saves for her 90:00 minutes of play. Freshman goalie Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) suffered the loss with two saves.
