Wildcats Claw Eagles in NECC Action 7-0

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- The Wildcats of Bay Path shut down the Eagles of Daniel Webster 7-0 today in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer action today at Ryan Field. Junior midfielder Emily Serrano (Savoy, Mass.) led the way for the Wildcats with four points scoring the first goal and eventual game winner along with two assists on the day.

Serrano credited with the first goal with some help from the Eagles defenders tipping it past Daniel Webster's junior keeper Jennifer Fredericks (Beacon Falls, Conn.). Sophomore forward Nicole Crossman (Winsted, Conn.) had the assist with a well-placed corner kick.

Sophomore forward Melissa Toler (Paso Robles, Calif.) scored next at 10:33 on the clock off a cross up the middle by Serrano.

Senior defender Rachael Barber (Lynn, Mass.) found the back of the net at 24:09 after shelling it past Fredericks.

The fourth and final goal of the first half came from junior midfielder Keelin Dougherty (Northfield, N.H.) at 28:46 off a pass from the right side by sophomore midfielder Alexis Cookson (Mt. Vernon, Maine.)

Both teams agreed upon two shortened halves due to a small roster size for the Eagles. The Wildcats played down three to even the score with the Eagles in the second half.

Head Coach Nick Chapman was pleased with his team's performance and sportsmanship. "The girls played hard and with heart."

In the second half, the Wildcats scored three more goals from freshman Katie Mikolajczak (Griswold, Conn.), sophomore forward Megan Tancredi (Newington, Conn.) and sophomore starting keeper/forward Marina Rhodes (Providence, R.I.). Two were unassisted while Mikolajczak's sixth goal at 43:29 was assisted by Serrano.

Rhodes shared the shut-out with sophomore Nicole Ogden (Springfield, Mass.). Rhodes grabbed the win while Ogden faced one shot from freshman Natalie Nagle (Dolgeville, N.Y.). Eagles goaltender Fredericks suffered the loss with 11 saves facing 36 shots, 18 of which were on goal.

Bay Path is now 3-10-2 overall and 2-5 in conference play, while Daniel Webster falls to 1-11 on the season and 0-7 in the NECC.  Bay Path travels to Southern Vermont on Wednesday, October 24th for a 3:00 p.m. match, while the Eagles host Newbury on the same day for a 4:00 p.m. start.
