Helming, Thibodeau and Maynard Honored in Senior Day Activities
LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Bay Path hosted New England Collegiate Conference opponent Southern Vermont College in another women's soccer match, where the Mountaineers defeated the Wildcats 5-0 on Senior Day. Three seniors were recognized in their final home match of the year including two year member and midfielder Samantha Maynard (Chicopee, Mass.) and two four-year starters in defender Krysten Thibodeau (Dalton, Mass.) and forward Elena Helming (Maplewood, N.J.).
Five different Mountaineers scored to lead their team to a 5-0 victory. The first and eventual game winner came at 12:07 on the clock when freshman midfielder Nicole Shapiro (New Windsor, N.Y.) found the back of the net after grabbing her own rebound. Shapiro then assisted in the second goal of the first half in the 16th minute finding sophomore midfielders Ashley Blom's (Manorville, N.Y.) head to score the second goal.
Southern Vermont would come back in the second half scoring three more insurance goals. In the 71st minute, junior midfielder Molly Madore (Higganum, Conn.) would score off an assist by junior defender Vanessa Kendall (Coventry, Conn.).
The Mountaineers would convert two corner kicks for the final two goals. Blom would find freshman defender Jayne Wierzbicki (Wilmington, Mass.) at 75:38 on the clock and junior defender Naya Cerda (West Islip, N.Y.) would kick to sophomore Juliena D'Alessio (Berlin, N.Y.) for the final goal at 88:57 on the clock.
Maynard has tallied 24 games, 12 starts, 1 goal, 1 assist, three points and 21 shots for her two years. Thibodeau has 56 games, 54 starts and 27 shots for her four year career holding down the back line. Helming has 55 games, 45 starts, 17 goals, 11 assists, 45 points and 107 shots for her four year career.
The Wildcats fall to 7-6-1 overall and 4-4 in the NECC, Southern Vermont advances to 11-4-1 and 5-1-1 in conference play.
