LEICESTER, Mass- Becker College defeated Bay Path 6-3 to capture the New England Collegiate Conference Tennis Championship. This match was the deciding game between the two teams as they finished tied during the final week of regular season play, the game was halted last week due to darkness.

Bendzin Named 2009 NECC Women's Tennis Player of the Year
ATTLEBORO, Mass.- Four out of the five New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women’s tennis programs were represented on the 2009 All-NECC Women’s Tennis Team and NECC major awards, announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. In addition to the all-conference team, three major individual award winners and the team sportsmanship award winner will be recognized at the first day of the 2009 NECC Championships.

Julia Bendzin Named NECC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
ATTLEBORO, Mass.-Bay Path senior Julia Bendzin (Poetsenkill, N.Y.) led the Wildcats to a 2-0 conference sweep defeating Mitchell 8-1 and Lesley 7-2. Bendzin finished undefeated for the week, going 2-0 at #1 singles and 2-0 at #1 doubles. With teammate Kara Fox they won 8-3 and 8-4, and she defeated the Mariners' Julie Felts 6-3, 6-2 and coming back to overtake Lynx' Courtney Mullen 1-6, 6-2 (6-3 tie-breaker).

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.-The Wildcats of Bay Path College clawed their way to a solid 6-3 victory over host Newbury College in an important New England College match up in Chestnut Hill today. This improved their record to an impressive 9-2 overall, and 6-1 in the conference.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University women’s tennis team was defeated on Saturday afternoon by Bay Path College 7-2 and dropped their inaugural season record to 5-6 (2-5 NECC). Bay Path improved to 8-2 (5-1 NECC) as the Wildcats continued to be top dog in the conference.

Costa easily defeated her opponents at #3 singles 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1, while partnering with teammate Cristina Ruiz in the #2 doubles spot and winning 8-2 in both matches.

LONGMEADOW, Mass.—Senior Julia Bendzin (Poestenkill, N.Y.) remains undefeated on the season at the #1 position 4-0 defeating sophomore Megan Nessen (Levittown, Penn.) 6-2, 6-3. Despite Bay Path taking two doubles early in the match the Becker College Hawks came back to win four singles overtaking the 2009 NECC preseason favorites the Wildcats of Bay Path 5-4 in conference action today.

Ruiz notched a 1-6, 6-3 (10-6) tie-break win against St. Joseph's (Conn.) Alicia Lienhop in singles action and an 8-6 victory teaming with Sarah Costa in doubles action.

Bay Path Tops NECC Women's Tennis Preseason Poll
Bay Path College has been tabbed as the preseason favorite to capture the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women’s tennis championship, it was announced today by Commissioner Del Malloy. Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the NECC’s head women’s tennis coaches.
