WESTON, Mass. – Regis College took two of the three doubles matches but could not hang on in singles play as Bay Path College defeated the Pride, 6-3, in NECC women's tennis action on Sunday afternoon. Bay Path improves to 10-2 overall and 7-1 in the NECC while Regis drops to 5-8 and 5-5 in league play.
Regis jumped out to an early 2-1 lead as the Pride won two of the three doubles matches to start the day. Elora Granados (Chillicothe, Texas) and Paige Pasley (Dorchester, Mass.) posted an 8-5 win over senior Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I.) and sophomore Symone Watson in number one doubles while Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.) and Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) notched an 8-6 victory in number three doubles over sophomore Teanna Montoya (Edgartown, Mass.) and freshman Cynthia Hilton (San Fernando, Caolif.). Bay Path's lone point in doubles play came from freshman Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.) and senior Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine), who handed Mary Jane Barron (Whitinsville, Mass.) and Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) an 8-6 setback in number two doubles.
Singles play was all Bay Path as the Wildcats won five of the six singles matches to secure the 6-3 win. Sarah Costa posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Granados in number one singles while Symone Watson won her number two flight over Caroline Roche, 6-1, 6-0. Stephanie Morin needed a first set tiebreak to defeat Mary Jane Barron in their number three singles matchup, before Morin won 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. Maryse Emungu (South Burlington, Vt.) posted the lone singles win for the Pride with her straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win in number six singles.
Regis returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when the Pride travels to Becker College for their NECC Semifinal matchup with the Hawks at 2:00 p.m. Bay Path will host Lesley College on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the other Semifinal matchup.
