HOLYOKE, Mass.- Freshman middle hitter Arriadne Sykes (Hartford, Conn.) led the way for Bay Path nailing a sizzling .346 attack percentage in a 3-1 New England Collegiate Conference(NECC) victory over the Lynx of Lesley this afternoon at the Bartley Center on HCC campus. Bay Path controlled most of the match easily taking the first two games 25-22 and 25-17, with the Lynx taking advantage of a .000 hitting percentage for the Wildcats in the third game winning it 25-21. Bay Path came on strong in the final set shutting down Lesley 25-9.
Freshman outside hitter Gladys Reed (Hampden, Conn.) sealed the deal for the Wildcats slamming the final kill and 25th point off a beautifully set ball by senior Ashley Provost (Ludlow, Mass.). Reed finished with four kills and two block assists. Provost had match high 29 assists chipping in two kills and three digs.
Sophomore Libero Kacie Bayreuther (East Lyme, Conn.) had the match high 23 digs while pitching in three service aces and three kills. Freshman middle hitter Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) was second for the Panthers with seven kills and an amazing four block solos. Sykes who led the Maroon and White tallied 13 kills, three block solos, one block assist and three service aces. Two freshmen outside hitters Stephanie Synott (Torrington, Conn.) and Katelynn Hannan (Troy, N.Y.) combined for 27 digs and eight kills.
Lesley was led by senior outside hitter Megan Ortwein (Shanghai, China ) with a .100 attack percentage and seven kills and nine digs. Sophomore rightside hitter Danielle Johnson (Waterford, Conn.) also had seven kills. Freshman Libero Danielle McDonald(Lilitz, Penn.) finished with 22 digs.
Bay Path is now 7-10 overall and takes their first NECC game with a 1-4 conference record. Lesley falls to 5-10 on the season and 3-1. The Wildcats host Elms in another league match on Tuesday, October 16th at 8:00 p.m., while Lesley hosts Daniel Webster the same day and time
