BROOKLINE, Mass.-- Newbury College hosted the inaugural 2008 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Cross Country Championship yesterday at Franklin Park. Eight of the nine member institutions participated in the race which saw top team finishes from the Daniel Webster Eagles (39 points) on the men's side and the Lesley Lynx (28 points) on the women's side.
Carleton College of Minnesota made its trip to New England extra special by running away with the team title with an outstanding total of 25 points to easily outdistance Westfield (75 points). Carelton had four runners place in the top six (7 in the top 13) including individual champion Simone Childs-Walker (18:18.69).
Congratulations to freshmen Caitlin Ferland of Vergennes, Vt. who was recognized for outstanding play by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) for her performances during the week of Sept. 22. Caitlin was chosen Rookie Runner of the Week in cross country.
Castleton, VT - The Castleton State College cross country team took home the top spot in the womens 5,000 meter race and finished third in the mens 8,000 meter race at the Spartan invitational on Sunday. Babson College took top team honors in the mens race, outscoring second-place Lyndon State 22-48.
