Castleton, VT - The Castleton State College cross country team took home the top spot in the women's 5,000 meter race and finished third in the men's 8,000 meter race at the Spartan invitational on Sunday. Babson College took top team honors in the men's race, outscoring second-place Lyndon State 22-48.
WOMEN: Castleton's Maggie Klein picked up her first collegiate win, running the 5,000 meters in a time of 20:20 to lead the Spartans to their second-straight Spartan Invitational win. Castleton took three out of the top five spots, and placed five in the top-11 to best second-place, Green Mountain College 29-60. Lyndon State's Lyndsay Calkins finished second with a time of 20:27, followed by Babson's Michelle Black at 21:34. Castleton's Lindsay Rines and Dana Pulkinen finished fourth and fifth respectively, with times of 22:17 and 23:21.
Rounding out the top-10 were: Lauren DiSessa (23:26; Green Mountain), Caitlin Ferland (23:34; Bay Path), Nicole Horvath (23:43; Green Mountain), Sage Small (24:03; Castleton), and Colleen McNamara (24:24; Johnson State).
