CHICOPEE, Mass.- Bay Path raced in the 2011 Blazers Invitational hosted by NECC opponent Elms College finishing 13th with a team score of 324 with Salve Regina taking top honors with a team score of 31 points. Bay Path beat their previous races score by over 100 points. The Wildcat harriers broke some season best times while facing over 141 runners at the Chicopee Memorial State Park course.
Interim head coach and Director of Athletics, Steve Smith stated ," The team did a great job with all them beating their season personal bests in the race."
Freshman Olivia Bis (South Windsor, Conn.) once again led the Wildcats in the 5K race with a team highest time of 25:52 for 78th place overall and 55th in the scoring team place.
Salve Regina finished first followed by University of New England (35), Rhode Island (112), Johnson & Wales (115), Lasell (127), Massachusetts Maritime Academy (218), Curry College (246), Mount Ida College (247), Eastern Nazarene (292), Newbury (298), Elms (299), St. Joseph College (Conn.) (303), Bay Path College (324), Johnson State (326) and Wheelock (357).
For the women, Jess Partlow of UNE crossed the finish line first with a time of 19:31 in the women's 5-kilometer race followed by Salve Regina's Caroline Norton (19:49) and UNE's Colleen Ahern (20:01).
Wildcat runners placing were Danielle Brown(Nashua, N.H.) in 83rd place ( 26:44), Jessica Fields (Enfield, Conn.) in 87th (27:11), Katrina Trajkovski (Wilbraham, Mass.) in 94th (28:14), Renae Brescia (New Milford, Conn.) in 101st (28:42), Meagan Costello (Rochester, N.H.) in 115th (29:58), and Zuleyma Molina (New Britian, Conn.) in 122nd (32:01). Also crossing thru the chute for Bay Path were Caitlin Reynolds (Worcester, Mass.) with a time of 32:58, Vanessa Conceicao (Enfield, Conn.) with a time of 37:43, Melissa Lindsay (Ware, Mass.) with a time of 38:29 and Brittany Castagna (Chester, Mass.) with a time of 38:48.
Bay Path will be back in action on Saturday, October 1st at the St. Joseph College Invitational in Hartford, Conn.
