Bay Path Drops Game 3-2 in USCAA Softball Action
Penn State New Kensington rallied for three unanswered runs across the third and sixth innings to slip past Bay Path, 3–2, Tuesday night at Heindl Field in DuBois, Pa.
Bay Path struck first in the opening inning, manufacturing an unearned run after an error helped extend the frame. Madison Sunderland came around to score to give the Wildcats a 1–0 lead. Bay Path added on in the third when Sunderland lined an RBI double down the left-field line, scoring Madison Tessmer and pushing the advantage to 2–0.
Penn State New Kensington responded immediately in the bottom half of the third. Angelina Ferriola singled to left to drive in Jayde Rivera, cutting the deficit to one, and moments later Kali Barnett brought home the tying run with an RBI groundout to make it 2–2.
The Nittany Lions broke through for the go-ahead run in the sixth. After Antonia Velasquez reached and advanced into scoring position, Shai Moore delivered what proved to be the game-winning RBI on a groundout, plating Linda Shepard for a 3–2 lead.
Shepard finished the job in the circle, earning the win by allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits over seven innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Sunderland took the loss for Bay Path despite a strong outing—six innings, five hits, three runs, one walk, and five strikeouts—while also leading Bay Path's offense with a 2-for-3 night and an RBI double.
Both teams ended with five hits and one error, but Penn State New Kensington's ability to cash in on productive outs (three RBIs on groundouts/singles without an extra-base hit beyond Shepard's double) was the difference. The Nittany Lions improved to 24–9, while Bay Path fell to 21–18. Attendance was 99, and the game lasted 1 hour, 27 minutes.
Bay Path next plays Penn State Mont Alto at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 13, 2026
