Wildcats Comeback to win 7-6 over Waynesburg University on Day 2 Opener
Bay Path walked off Waynesburg, 7–6, in a wild seventh inning Tuesday morning at Myrtle Beach's spring tournament site in South Carolina.
Waynesburg entered the final frame trailing 5–1, but nearly flipped the game on its head with a five-run rally. The Yellow Jackets finally broke through against starter J. Boudreau (6.2 IP) when Ellie Cervola lined a two-run single down the right-field line, cutting the deficit to 5–3. Moments later, Katelyn Sullivan—who finished a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk and a stolen base—drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 5–4. Waynesburg then tied the game on a passed ball before taking a 6–5 lead on another passed ball that brought home the go-ahead run.
But Bay Path answered immediately in the bottom of the seventh to steal it back. With the tying run aboard, a Waynesburg error at second base allowed the equalizer to score, making it 6–6. Bay Path then completed the comeback when Ansley Morrison worked a bases-loaded walk to force in the winning run and cap a two-run seventh.
Bay Path (1-2) built its lead steadily. In the first, Madison Sunderland doubled to right-center to drive in Madison Tessmer. Another run came in the third on Sunderland's RBI groundout, and Bay Path widened the gap in the fifth when Jenna Boudreau singled to center for two RBIs—both runs unearned. An RBI groundout from Caroline Austin in the sixth made it 5–1.
Bay Path finished with eight hits, led by Sunderland (2-for-3, two doubles, two RBIs) and contributions from Boudreau (two RBIs) and Austin (RBI double plus another RBI).
In the circle, Waynesburg starter E. Wear allowed four runs (two earned) over 4.2 innings, while reliever M. Walt was tagged with three runs and struggled with command, issuing six walks in two innings. Bay Path leaned on Boudreau for 6.2 innings before A. Kreischer recorded the final out despite walking two.
