Game One Goes to Mass Martime 7-1

Massachusetts Maritime used a decisive second inning and steady pitching from Jennamarie Klemp to roll past Bay Path, 7–1, Saturday afternoon at Rollins Field in Buzzards Bay.

The Buccaneers (4–4) broke the game open in the bottom of the second, scoring four times with help from both timely contact and pressure on the bases. The inning began to swing when a wild pitch brought home Camryn Whitman for the game's first run. Moments later, shortstop Reagan Kerecz delivered the big hit—an RBI single to left-center that drove in two more to make it 3–0. Kerecz then came around to score later in the inning, pushing the margin to 4–0.

Bay Path (3–7) starter Kaitlyn Kerstetter battled through command trouble—issuing four walks in three innings—and Mass. Maritime took advantage of the extra traffic. Bay Path scratches one back, but Maritime answers
Bay Path's lone run came in the third. Ansley Morrison doubled and later scored on Madison Tessmer's RBI groundout, trimming the deficit to 4–1.

Any momentum was short-lived. Mass. Maritime responded immediately in the bottom of the third when Whitman singled to center to drive in Abbey Doherty, restoring a four-run cushion at 5–1. The Buccaneers kept adding on with single runs in the fourth and fifth: Hannah Burton's RBI single plated Mikale Lemons in the fourth, and Natalie Gale's RBI single scored Whitman in the fifth to cap the scoring at 7–1.

Klemp (4–2) was in control throughout, working a complete-game seven innings while allowing five hits and one run with two walks and three strikeouts. Bay Path managed five hits but rarely sustained threats, leaving seven runners on base.
