Bay Path Drops Game Two 9-1

Massachusetts Maritime's bats erupted early and often on Saturday afternoon, powering the Buccaneers to a 9–1 win over Bay Path at Rollins Field (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) on March 21.

Mass. Maritime (5–4) struck immediately in the bottom of the first, sending 10 hitters to the plate while building a 4–0 cushion. Reagan Kerecz ignited the rally with a double and came around to score on Hannah Burton's RBI single up the middle. Moments later, Ab'c'de Patane ripped a two-run double down the right-field line to make it 3–0, and Camryn Whitman followed with an RBI single to right to cap the inning at 4–0.

The Buccaneers added again in the second to extend the lead to 5–0, with Kelsey Booker crossing the plate during a Patane plate appearance as Mass. Maritime continued to pressure Bay Path defensively and on the bases.

Bay Path (3–8) managed its lone run in the top of the third. Madison Tessmer reached and eventually scored when pitcher Jenna Boudreau punched a single to second; an error on the play allowed Boudreau to take an extra base, but the key damage was the RBI that cut the deficit to 5–1. That would be one of only two hits on the day for the Wildcats, who also drew five walks but struggled to string together rallies (6 strikeouts, 7 left on base).

Any momentum was short-lived. Mass. Maritime answered with a four-run fourth inning to put the game out of reach. Cassie Lynch delivered an RBI single to left to make it 6–1, and Patane provided the knockout blow with a three-run homer to left—her five-RBI afternoon—pushing the margin to 9–1.

In the circle, Ashleigh Catlett earned the win for the Buccaneers, allowing just two hits and one earned run over five innings while striking out six and working around five walks. Bay Path's Boudreau took the loss after four innings, with Mass. Maritime piling up 15 hits and nine runs (one home run) against her.

Patane finished 3-for-3 with five RBIs (double and home run), while Booker went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a double. Kerecz added a 2-for-3 day with a double and a run, as the Buccaneers produced extra-base pop and consistent contact from top to bottom.
