Day Three Starts Off with 11-8 Win Over Penn State Mont Alto
Day Three Action begins with an 11-8 win over Penn State Mont Alto.
Bay Path used a pair of big innings and just enough late breathing room to outlast Penn State Mont Alto, 11–8, on Tuesday afternoon at Heindl Field (May 13, 2026).
Early fireworks set the tone
Bay Path struck first in the top of the first when Madison Sunderland launched a two-run homer to left, scoring Caroline Austin for a quick 2–0 lead. Mont Alto answered in the bottom half on a Rachel Alleman sacrifice fly to make it 2–1, hinting at the back-and-forth day ahead.
In the second, Bay Path expanded the lead behind Austin again—her two-run double plated Ariana Rivard and Ansley Morrison to push it to 4–1. Mont Alto immediately countered with a rally of its own: Abigail Cunningham drove in a run with a single, then Terri Williams ripped a two-run double to tie it 4–4.
Bay Path's four-run fourth becomes the difference
Bay Path edged back in front in the third on Grace Ramsey's RBI single (5–4), then delivered the decisive swing sequence in the fourth. Austin's RBI triple and Madison Tessmer's RBI double helped ignite the inning, and two additional runs scored on defensive miscues, turning a one-run game into a 9–4 Bay Path advantage.
Mont Alto didn't go away. Williams struck again in the fourth with a two-run single to pull the Lions within 9–6, and in the fifth Sarah Devilbiss crushed a solo homer to make it 9–7.
Late insurance holds up
Bay Path added two critical runs in the sixth—one coming home on a throwing error and another on Sunderland's RBI single—to extend the cushion to 11–7. Mont Alto managed one in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI groundout by Aiyana Young, but Sunderland finished the job in the seventh to secure the win.
Standout performers
- Caroline Austin (Bay Path): 3-for-5, 3 runs, 3 RBI, double and triple—the engine of Bay Path's offense all afternoon.
- Madison Sunderland (Bay Path): 2-for-2 with 3 runs, 3 RBI, 2 walks, a 2-run HR, and 2 stolen bases; also went the distance in the circle.
- Terri Williams (Penn State Mont Alto): a huge day at the top of the order, 4-for-4 with 4 RBI and two doubles, accounting for half of Mont Alto's RBIs.
By the numbers
Both teams finished with 12 hits, but Bay Path capitalized on Mont Alto's three errors and also overcame its own two errors in a high-scoring, momentum-swinging contest. In the circle, Sunderland earned the complete-game win despite allowing 12 hits, while Mont Alto's Kira Weikert took the loss after seven innings with unearned damage factoring heavily into the final margin.
Final: Bay Path 11, Penn State Mont Alto 8.
