Wildcats Defeat Vt-State Johnson 8-0

Bay Path rode a fast start at the plate and a dominant outing in the circle from Madison Sunderland to an 8–0, five-inning win over Vermont State Johnson on Saturday afternoon at South Campus.

Bay Path (now 6–9) put the game out of reach immediately, scoring four times in the first inning with help from two Vermont State Johnson errors. The opening run came when Madison Tessmer reached on a bunt that triggered an error at first, allowing Caroline Austin to score on a second miscue. Sunderland followed by driving in Tessmer with an RBI double, and Jackie Phillips added another RBI double to make it 3–0. The inning's fourth run scored on Tristan Perez's RBI groundout.

The Badgers (0–6) were forced to play from behind the rest of the way, managing only two hits and never advancing a runner far enough to seriously threaten.

Bay Path added three more in the second. Sunderland knocked in a run with an RBI single, then Jenna Boudreau crushed a two-run homer to center to extend the lead to 7–0. Sunderland finished 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Boudreau went 1-for-3 with two RBIs on the home run.

Phillips (2-for-3) and Tristan Perez (2-for-3) also produced key hits, with Perez driving in two on the day.

Sunderland completed the job in the circle, tossing a five-inning shutout with 11 strikeouts while allowing just two hits and one walk. Vermont State Johnson's only hits came from Audrey Tembrell (1-for-2) and Nikki Sweet (1-for-2). As a team, Vermont State Johnson struck out 11 times in 18 at-bats.

Hannah Corvino took the loss for Vermont State Johnson, working 4.1 innings and allowing eight runs (six earned) on eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Defensive mistakes in the first inning proved costly, with errors charged to Taylor Reddi and Grace Allen contributing to two unearned runs.

Bay Path tacked on its final run in the fifth on Perez's RBI single, triggering the run-rule ending at 8–0.
