Wildcats Win Game 2 to Split with Mitchell College

Immediate Release:

Bay Path broke a 2–2 tie with a four-run fifth inning to pull away from Mitchell, 6–2, Wednesday evening at Alumni Field in New London, Connecticut.

The Wildcats struck first in the top of the first. Caroline Austin reached and came around to score when Taylor Moreau singled to right and took an extra base on the throw, giving Bay Path a 1–0 lead. Mitchell answered immediately in the bottom half, tying the game 1–1 on an Olivia DeCicco sacrifice fly that brought home Cassandra Roman.

After two scoreless frames, the Mariners took their only lead in the third. Brooke Clancy drew one of Mitchell's five walks, and Kaylee Drago followed by driving a double to right-center to make it 2–1. Bay Path evened it in the fourth with timely execution: Tristan Perez worked a walk and later scored to tie the game 2–2, with Bay Path using small-ball pressure (including a stolen base from Eliana Tena) to keep runners moving.

The decisive swing came in the fifth. Bay Path sent nine hitters to the plate and scored four times, taking advantage of three walks and two hits in the inning against Mitchell's final pitcher, Tess Frager. RBI contributions in the rally came from Perez, Tena, Anya Gesin, and Ariana Rivard, turning a tight game into a 6–2 advantage that held through the bottom of the inning.

Madison Sunderland earned the win in the circle for Bay Path, going the distance (5.0 IP) while allowing three hits and two earned runs. She worked around traffic all night—Mitchell drew five walks—but limited damage and finished with four strikeouts on 80 pitches (44 strikes). For Mitchell, Christina Aneiro started strongly (3.0 IP, 1 ER), but Bay Path's patience at the plate ultimately proved costly as the Wildcats finished with six walks and produced six runs on six hits.

Moreau led Bay Path offensively, going 2-for-2 with an RBI, a double, and a walk. Austin also had a two-hit day, while Bay Path's run production was spread across the lineup in the late surge. For Mitchell, Roman and Drago supplied extra-base hits, with Drago's RBI double accounting for the go-ahead run in the third.

Bay Path improved to 3–7 with the win; Mitchell dropped to 3–7. The game lasted 1 hour, 30 minutes and drew an attendance of 65.
