Bay Path Takes Game One Over UMaine Augusta 10-2
Bay Path jumped on Me.-Augusta early and never let up, rolling to a 10–2 win Friday afternoon at South Campus to improve to 21–3.
The Wildcats (12–13) were immediately in a hole after Bay Path sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first. Madison Sunderland set the tone with a two-run single to score Caroline Austin and Madison Tessmer, and Bay Path kept the line moving with RBI singles from Jenna Boudreau and Taylor Moreau. Daniela Gonzalez added another run-scoring hit, and Ariana Rivard's fielder's choice brought home the sixth run of the inning for a quick 6–0 advantage.
After two scoreless frames, Bay Path struck again in the third to put the game out of reach. Gonzalez lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 7–0, then Rivard delivered the big swing of the day—a two-run single that plated Ansley Morrison and Moreau and extended the lead to 9–0.
Me.-Augusta showed some fight late. In the fourth, Arabel Linkletter doubled and eventually scored on Natalie Gilman's sacrifice fly to get the visitors on the board. In the fifth, Norra Idano reached and scored on Aubrey Peer's RBI single to cut the deficit to 9–2, but Bay Path answered right away when Rivard added a sacrifice fly in the bottom half for the final 10–2 margin.
Rivard finished with four RBIs (two-run single plus a sac fly and an RBI fielder's choice), while Sunderland went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk. Bay Path totaled 11 hits and drew three walks, with Moreau (2-for-3, RBI) and Morrison (2-for-3, two runs) also productive at the top and middle of the order.
In the circle, Kaitlyn Kerstetter started and gave Bay Path four strong innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out three. Sunderland worked the fifth to close it out. Me.-Augusta's Addison McCormick went 4 2/3 innings and was charged with 10 runs on 11 hits with three walks and one strikeout.
Me.-Augusta collected four hits—one each from Linkletter, Madilyn Cote, Samantha Withee, and Peer—while committing one error. Bay Path played error-free behind its pitchers.
